Our aims within our Foundation Stage Setting are to provide an atmosphere in which children can make the transition from Home – Nursery – School as secure and happy an experience as possible within a friendly, caring Christian environment where all children can feel valued and welcomed and where we aim to build positive relationships with parents/carers.
At St Aidan’s we believe that all children deserve the care and support they need to have the best start in life. Children learn and develop at a faster rate from birth to five years old than at any other time in their lives, so their experiences in early years have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe, and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high-quality early learning provide the foundation children need to fulfil their potential.
In our Early Years setting we teach the children how to listen, speak and meet the high expectations for behaviour by working together and being kind. As such, we prioritise the Prime Areas of Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Communication and Language in the Early Years Setting. Our enabling environment and warm, skilful adult interactions support the children as they begin to link learning to their play and exploration. We invest time and energy into helping children by aiming high and developing a love of learning. We promote teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the right foundation for good future progress through school and life. The EYFS is about what children learn, as well as how they learn. Effective practice is a mix of different approaches. Children learn through play, by adults modelling, by observing each other and through adult-guided learning.
